Starting to write, facing a blank page: not my favourite thing. And about me: even worse. It’s obvious to me that I am not by nature a blogger. But I have some reason to want to reveal myself, so here we go.

I studied maths at Cambridge in the 70’s. My first jobs were in medical research and electronics. In the 80’s I got interested in psychotherapy, and even went into full-time training for a few years, supporting myself by contract computer work. I learnt a lot and had a lot of fun, but it turned out not to be something I wanted to work in. Then I took up painting and sculpture. That was when I went to live in France for a few months, which led on to Italy, which was where I met Annalisa. We have been together now for 14 years and have two sons. I never expected to be a father, not even a husband really, but it’s turned out beautifully. Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans. We now live in Churchill Gardens in the centre of London. I stole Annalisa, an only child, away from her family and tiny village in Tuscany; or, I came back to London and she followed me. I think she found London tough at first, but she is an optimist and immensely adaptable, and now she loves it. We go to Italy quite often, and the boys are practically bilingual. Things changed a lot when my father-in-law died, and now we are thinking seriously about moving to Italy.
